The Canada-United States Business Association (CUSBA) Statement of Support for the Opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge

The Canada-U.S. Business Association (CUSBA), a Michigan Non-Profit since 1992, proudly expresses its strong support for the opening and full operational launch of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. This transformational project represents far more than a new border crossing—it is a historic investment in the future economic strength, resiliency, and competitiveness of both Canada and the United States.

As the busiest commercial trade corridor in North America, the Detroit-Windsor gateway serves as a critical artery for manufacturing, automotive production, logistics, agriculture, and cross-border commerce. The Gordie Howe International Bridge will significantly enhance supply chain reliability, reduce congestion, improve freight efficiency, and create essential infrastructure redundancy that strengthens the long-term stability of the North American economy.

CUSBA believes this project arrives at a pivotal moment for both nations as governments and industry work to reinforce domestic manufacturing capacity, modernize trade infrastructure, reduce supply chain costs, improve business competitiveness and attract global investment. The bridge will help position the Great Lakes region as a leading center for advanced manufacturing, mobility innovation, logistics, and industrial growth while supporting thousands of jobs and long-term economic opportunity on both sides of the border.

CUSBA commends the leadership, cooperation, and shared vision demonstrated by Canadian and American policymakers, labor organizations, private industry, and regional stakeholders who helped bring this landmark project to reality. The opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge will stand as a powerful symbol of the enduring partnership between Canada and the United States.  It demonstrates a shared commitment to economic growth, regional prosperity, and North American competitiveness for generations to come.
