Current Policy / Advocacy Initiatives

At CUSBA, we are dedicated to making a difference through proactive policy engagement and advocacy. Join us in our efforts to shape a thriving cross-border business environment that benefits all stakeholders.

CUSBA is committed to addressing the workforce needs of businesses engaged in cross-border trade. We advocate for policies that enhance workforce skills and ensure that both countries have the talent needed to compete in a global business environment. This includes promoting vocational training, apprenticeships, and educational programs that equip workers with the skills necessary for success in the modern economy.

A key aspect of workforce development is ensuring that businesses have access to the talent they need, regardless of borders. CUSBA advocates for fair and efficient business immigration policies that facilitate the movement of skilled workers between Canada and the U.S. We engage with immigration authorities and political leaders to address visa and work permit issues that impact cross-border labor mobility.

CUSBA’s Annual Cross-Border Economic Forecast is a key virtual event where leading economists from Canada and the United States present their latest economic projections and discuss the key factors driving economic change on both sides of the border. This event offers valuable insights into the implications of economic trends for cross-border businesses, covering topics such as monetary policy, trade dynamics, and industry-specific impacts. Participants have the opportunity to engage with experts and gain actionable information to help navigate the evolving economic landscape and make informed strategic decisions.

CUSBA is deeply committed to fostering public-private partnerships that drive significant infrastructure projects and enhance cross-border connectivity between the U.S. and Canada. A key example of our involvement is our support for the Gordie Howe International Bridge project, a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at improving the flow of trade and travel between the two nations.

CUSBA’s policy and advocacy work involves ongoing dialogue with political leaders at the federal, state, and provincial levels in both Canada and the U.S. We actively participate in consultations, provide expert testimony, and contribute to the development of policy initiatives that impact cross-border business. Our aim is to ensure that the voices of our members are heard and that their interests are represented in the corridors of power.
